Mg Thaw Zin Oo and Ma Su Ei Phyo s' Wedding Ceremony

Thursday, 26-Dec-2019, at Nay Pyi Taw.

I attended one of my Myanmar friend Mg Thaw Zin's wedding ceremony at Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Union of Myanmar. He married Ma Su Ei Phyo.

I write this blog to capture and describe the culture of a traditional wedding program of Myanmar.

On 25th December 2019 (Wednesday), I travelled from Yangon by bus and reached Nay Pyi Taw at 4:45AM. It was 15°C at that time here and I was not prepared for it. By 40-50 minutes, Aung Kyaw arrived at bus stop and picked me to Mg Thaw Zin's house. I changed my dress there and arrived at the wedding ceremony venue at 7:15AM.

The program

Pre-wedding photos

Before wedding, couples take pre-wedding photos. In the wedding program venue those pre-wedding photos are placed at the entrance and many of the guests take photo with the pre-wedding photo frame. I personally liked this pre-wedding photo concept. It's creates an attractive sight in the program. Here, pre-wedding photography is modern tradition added with their traditional culture.

The Backdrop

The wedding ceremony stage is really special. You can see the name of the bride and groom (written in Burmese). It's written

Mg Thaw Zin Oo (B.Agri.Sc) and Ma Su Ei Phyo's (BA. History)
Wedding Ceremony,
Date: 26-Dec-19 at Thiri Mingalar Venue.

At 8:00AM, bride and groom arrived at the venue. They slowly walked to the stage and took seat. Their parents sit beside them and took photos.

Greeting Guests:
Both bride and groom stands at the main entrance to welcome the guests entering at the venue. Guests give their gift or Cash donation before they enter into the venue. Here, most of the people pay cash. I heard before about it. Most of the people think that wedding ceremony is a very expensive event for any family. Cash as gift can be very helpful rather than a gift. I liked it. Truly speaking, a very good amount of cash I noticed people give in such wedding program.

Photos with guests
After the photo session, the bride and groom come down from the stage and visit every table guests to take photos with them.

And the Food:
Fried rice with chicken (kind of Biryani style in Bangladeshi /Indian culture).
As side fish, there are salad, crispy onion fry with fry fish, and bean salad. There are soup served to eat with rice. Simple but delicious.
I personally liked this dishes so much. As a dessert, they serves Ice Cream.

I've attended many other wedding programs before. My colleagues', Indian friend's, invited me on their wedding program. I didn't miss any of those. Today I realized, I should have kept these culture of wedding as a memory in my diary. Ko Thaw Zin Oo is very happy to see me here.

I'll travel back to Yangon today at 4:00PM by bus.
It's my pleasure to share this experience with all of you.
